 Establishment of the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy

    Sitagu International Buddhist Academy was founded by the Most Venerable Dr.Ashin Nyanissara, who is also known as Sitagu Sayadaw, Aggamahapandita, Aggamahasaddham-majotikadhaja, Mahadhammakathika- bahujanahitadhara, Aggamahagantha-vacakapandita. The campusis situated in the heart of Myanmar, Sagaing Division, popularly known as Abode of Holy Recluses.

    The central stake, to mark the site of the Academy, was planted on the full moon day of Kason in M.E 1356 (May 1994), Vesakha Day, by Pathama Gandhayon Sayadaw Ven. Supannindabhivamsa, Aggamahapandita, Abhidhajamaharatthaguru.

    The foundation for the buildings of the Academy, was laid with bejeweled bricks in the month of Pyatho M.E. 1356 (January 1995), by Shwehintha Sayadaw Ven. Panditasiri, the Chairman of the Shwegyin Nikaya, Aggamahapandita, Abhidhajamaha ratthaguru, and by Nyaung Shwe Kangyi Sayadaw Ven. Vimalabhivamsa, the Chairman of the Shwegyin Nikaya, Aggamahapandita, Abhidahajamaharatthaguru.

    The university was opened in 1996 starting with Diploma courses, while the first B.A .studies courses started in 2004.

    The campus is 20.26 acres with 30 buildings completed, i.e. Convocation Hall, Shrine Hall, Libraries, Lecture Halls, Research and Compilation, International Reception, Computer Center, Museum, Photo Exhibition Hall, Dining Halls, Preaching Hall, Meeting Halls, Multimedia Hall, VIP Guest House and other buildings.

    All the four corners there are four white buildings for the administrators' offices, such as Chancellor, Recetor, Administrator and Registrar. The other 24 buildings are situated around the campus, and at the center, the Convocation Hall is built. SIBA campus represents the circle of 24 conditions(Patthanas).
